In our application for development consent this site is used to allow the additional storm flows from the main tunnel, arriving via the Lee Tunnel to be pumped out and transferred for treatment.

Beckton Sewage Treatment Works is an existing Thames Water sewage treatment works (STW) site. The location of the site is shown below.

Construction is assumed to start in 2017 and be complete by 2022. Where appropriate some advance works may be carried out before the main construction period.

The proposed works include the installation of infrastructure to transfer flows to Beckton STW, the installation of additional equipment at the inlet works and construction of a new siphon tunnel from the Tideway Pumping Station to the overflow shaft.  To shaft are needed to construct the tunnel. The inlet shaft would be approximately 32 metres deep with an internal diameter of approximately nine metres, with the outlet shaft approximately 31 metres deep with an internal diameter of approximately seven metres.

While most operational structures would be underground, there would be a permanent building located over the siphon tunnel inlet shaft.

Please refer to the application documentation on the Planning Inspectorate’s website (link below) for full details of our proposals for this site.
